“A brief lakeside stroll with open water and airy views.”
Siúlóid Cois an Ghaoth is a short, easy walk in County Donegal that follows the lakeshore for 0.8 km / 0.5 mi with almost no climbing, reaching just 7 m / 24 ft at its highest point. It is well suited to a gentle outing, a quick leg-stretch, or a quiet waterside stroll, and most walkers will cover it in about 9 minutes.
This is a point-to-point route, beginning on the L5673 and staying close to the water for most of its length. The line of the walk is straightforward and low-lying, with the shore on one side and open Donegal landscape on the other, so the emphasis is on easy walking and the changing views along the lake rather than on distance or ascent.
Reaching the start is easiest by car via local roads. The wider area is also served by bus connections, so walkers without a car can plan a trip into the district and continue locally to the trailhead.
The route sits in a Donegal landscape of lakes, moorland and mountain backdrops. Water, open ground and broad skies shape even the shortest walks. On a calm day the lake is the main feature; when the breeze picks up, the exposed shoreline gives the walk its character.
With such a short distance and very little ascent, this is an accessible outing for most walkers, but the lakeside setting still calls for sensible footwear and an extra layer in windy weather. The route is best treated as a brief shoreline walk rather than a full hike.
