The Goecha Trek usually starts at Yuksom in West Sikkim. The standard approach goes from Yuksom to Sachen, Tshoka, Dzongri, Thansing, and Lamuney before the final push toward the Goecha La viewpoint area, then returns on the same corridor. This is the classic access route used for the trek inside Khangchendzonga National Park.
The Goecha Trek reaches very high altitude, with the Goecha La area commonly listed at about 4,940 m above sea level. Many itineraries turn around at View Point 1 below the pass, but the trek still involves a major altitude jump from Yuksom at roughly 1,780 m to the upper viewpoint zone near 4,600 to 4,940 m.
The Goecha Trek is usually considered best in spring and autumn, especially April to May and October to November. Those windows are favored for clearer mountain views around Dzongri, Samiti Lake, and the Kanchenjunga massif, while the monsoon months are much wetter and cloudier and winter conditions can be much harsher at higher camps.
Yes, the Goecha Trek can be done in 7 days on a compressed itinerary, usually starting and finishing in Yuksom and moving through camps such as Sachen, Tshoka, Dzongri, Thansing, and Lamuney. Even so, many standard itineraries take closer to 9 to 10 days because the altitude is significant and an acclimatization day around Dzongri is often built in.
Yes, the Goecha Trek runs through Khangchendzonga National Park, so permits are normally required before entering the trekking route. Trekking is controlled on designated trails in the park, and permit checks are part of the normal process for routes starting from Yuksom toward Dzongri and Goecha La.
