The trail begins with a journey through the Altes Torfmoor, an ancient peat bog that offers a unique landscape. This section is relatively flat, making it a gentle start. The bog is home to a variety of bird species, so bring binoculars if you're a bird-watching enthusiast. The first 3 km (1.9 miles) of the trail will take you through this serene environment, with minimal elevation gain.
As you continue, you'll reach Victoria-Sicht, a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. This section involves a moderate climb, gaining about 100 meters (328 feet) in elevation over the next 4 km (2.5 miles). The viewpoint is named after Queen Victoria, who visited the area in the 19th century. It's a perfect spot for a break and some photography.
The trail then leads you to Schwansenstein, a large glacial erratic boulder that has historical significance. This boulder was deposited during the last Ice Age and has been a landmark for centuries. The path to Schwansenstein is a mix of gentle slopes and flat terrain, covering the next 3 km (1.9 miles). This section is rich in flora, with various wildflowers and ancient trees lining the path.
