Trail Highlights

Chiemseeblick

As you begin your hike, you'll soon encounter the first highlight: Chiemseeblick. This viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of Lake Chiemsee, often referred to as the "Bavarian Sea." The lake is the largest in Bavaria and is steeped in history, with its islands hosting ancient monasteries and the famous Herrenchiemsee Palace, built by King Ludwig II.

Hausbachfall Waterfall

Continuing along the trail, you'll come across the Hausbachfall waterfall. This picturesque waterfall is a perfect spot for a short break. The sound of cascading water and the lush greenery around it create a serene atmosphere. The waterfall is particularly impressive after a period of rain, when the water flow is at its peak.

Flora and Fauna

The trail meanders through a variety of landscapes, including dense forests and open meadows. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species. The flora is equally diverse, with wildflowers blooming in the spring and summer months, adding a splash of color to your hike.

Historical Significance

The region around Traunstein has a rich history dating back to Roman times. As you hike, you'll notice remnants of old stone walls and pathways that have been used for centuries. The town of Traunstein itself has a fascinating history, with its roots in the salt trade. The old saltworks and the Salinenkapelle chapel are worth a visit if you have time before or after your hike.

Navigation and Safety

Given the moderate difficulty of the trail, it's advisable to use a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to ensure you stay on track. The trail is well-marked, but having a digital map can be very helpful, especially in the denser forest sections. Wear sturdy hiking boots, bring plenty of water, and be prepared for changing weather conditions, as the elevation gain can lead to cooler temperatures at higher altitudes.
