Grosser Halben and Brandaussicht via Malerweg and Sebnitztalweg

Starting near Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in Germany, this 12 km (7.5 miles) loop trail offers a moderate challenge with an elevation gain of approximately 500 meters (1,640 feet). The trailhead is easily accessible by both public transport and car. If you're using public transport, you can take a train to the Bad Schandau station and then a bus to the starting point. For those driving, parking is available near the trailhead.

Initial Ascent and Malerweg

The hike begins with a gradual ascent along the Malerweg, a historic trail known for its picturesque landscapes that have inspired many artists. As you climb, you'll pass through dense forests and rocky outcrops, offering glimpses of the surrounding Saxon Switzerland National Park. At around the 4 km (2.5 miles) mark, you'll reach Grosser Halben, a notable high point on the trail. Brandaussicht

The final leg of the hike takes you along the Sebnitztalweg, a scenic path that winds through the Sebnitz Valley. This section is relatively flat, allowing you to cool down after the more strenuous climbs. The trail meanders alongside the Sebnitz River, where you might spot local wildlife such as deer, foxes, and various bird species. The last 3 km (1.9 miles) will bring you back to the trailhead, completing the loop.
