Trail Overview

The trail begins with a gentle ascent through mixed forests, providing a serene start to your hike. As you progress, you'll encounter the first significant landmark, the Scheelsberg. This hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, making it a perfect spot for a short break and some photography. The initial climb is about 100 meters (328 feet) over the first 2 km (1.2 miles).

Key Landmarks and Nature

Continuing on, you'll reach the Heigberg, another notable elevation. The trail here is well-marked and winds through dense woodland, where you might spot local wildlife such as deer and various bird species. The Heigberg section involves a steeper climb, adding another 100 meters (328 feet) of elevation over the next 3 km (1.8 miles).

At approximately the 7 km (4.3 miles) mark, you'll come across the Immenberg. This area is known for its rich biodiversity, including rare plant species and a variety of insects. The trail flattens out here, making it a good spot to rest and enjoy the natural surroundings. The Immenberg also has historical significance, as it was once a site of ancient settlements, evidenced by archaeological finds in the area.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked with blue signs, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to ensure you stay on track. The terrain can be uneven, especially after rain, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. There are a few streams along the way, which can be crossed via small wooden bridges.

Final Stretch

The last part of the trail loops back towards Ascheffel, descending gradually through open fields and meadows. This section is relatively easy, with minimal elevation change, making it a pleasant end to your hike. You'll pass by a few traditional German farmhouses, adding a cultural touch to your journey.

Getting Back

Once you complete the loop and return to Ascheffel, you can easily catch a bus back to Rendsburg if you're using public transport. If you're driving, your car will be conveniently parked nearby, ready to take you back home or to your next adventure.
