Trail Overview

The trail meanders through a mix of serene parkland and lush meadows, offering a peaceful escape from urban life. The first section of the trail takes you through the Parkfriedhof Bümmerstede, a beautifully maintained cemetery with historical significance. Established in the early 20th century, the cemetery is not only a place of rest but also a green oasis with mature trees and well-kept pathways. As you walk through, you'll notice various memorials and gravestones that tell the stories of the local community.

Tungeler Wiesen

After exiting the cemetery, the trail transitions into the Tungeler Wiesen, a picturesque meadowland. This area is particularly known for its rich biodiversity. Keep an eye out for native bird species such as the European robin and the common blackbird. The meadows are also home to a variety of wildflowers, especially in the spring and summer months, making it a great spot for nature photography.

Navigation and Landmarks

To navigate the trail, it's recommended to use the HiiKER app, which provides detailed maps and real-time updates. The trail is well-marked, but having a digital guide can be very helpful, especially if you want to explore some of the smaller, less-trodden paths that branch off from the main loop.

Points of Interest

Around the 3 km (1.9 miles) mark, you'll come across a small pond, a perfect spot for a short break. The pond is often frequented by ducks and other waterfowl, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. Continuing on, you'll pass through a section of mixed woodland, where the canopy provides a refreshing shade, especially during the warmer months.

Historical Significance

Wildlife and Flora

The Tungeler Wiesen area is a haven for wildlife. In addition to birds, you might spot small mammals like hares and hedgehogs. The flora is equally diverse, with species ranging from oak and beech trees in the wooded sections to various grasses and wildflowers in the meadows.
