The elevation gain here is gradual, making it a pleasant start to your journey.

Schnarcherklippen

Approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Schnarcherklippen, a pair of striking rock formations. These rocks are a popular spot for climbers, but even if you're not into climbing, the view from the base is spectacular. The rocks are named for the snoring sound the wind makes as it passes through them. This section involves a bit of a steeper climb, adding about 50 meters (164 feet) to your elevation gain. The area around Schnarcherklippen is rich in flora, including various types of moss and lichen, which thrive in the moist, shaded environment.

Information boards provide historical context, detailing the castle's significance and the events that led to its current state.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool. HiiKER is an excellent app for this purpose, offering detailed maps and real-time tracking to ensure you stay on course. The trail can be slippery in wet conditions, so appropriate footwear with good grip is recommended. Also, be mindful of the weather, as conditions can change rapidly in this region.

Flora and Fauna

The Harz region is known for its rich biodiversity. Along the trail, you'll encounter a variety of plant species, including wildflowers in the spring and summer months. The forested areas are home to numerous animals, such as foxes, badgers, and a variety of bird species.
