Trail Overview

The trail begins with a gentle ascent through dense, lush forests typical of the Black Forest region. As you make your way up, you'll encounter a variety of flora, including towering pines and a rich undergrowth of ferns and wildflowers. The first significant landmark is the Ehemalige Falzhuette, an old hut that once served as a shelter for forest workers. This spot is perfect for a short break and offers a glimpse into the area's historical significance.

Wilder See

Approximately 5 km (3.1 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Wilder See, a serene lake surrounded by dense forest. The lake is a haven for birdwatchers, with species such as the Eurasian jay and the black woodpecker often spotted here. The area around the lake is also rich in amphibian life, so keep an eye out for frogs and newts near the water's edge.

Kepellenbuckel

Continuing on, the trail ascends towards Kepellenbuckel, the highest point of the hike. This section is more challenging, with steeper inclines and rocky terrain. The effort is well worth it, as the summit offers panoramic views of the Black Forest and the surrounding valleys. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Swabian Alps. This is a great spot for a longer rest and some photography.

Seeloch

The descent from Kepellenbuckel takes you towards Seeloch, another picturesque lake. This part of the trail is less steep but requires careful footing due to loose rocks and occasional muddy patches. Seeloch is smaller than Wilder See but equally beautiful, with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding trees. It's a peaceful spot to enjoy a snack and soak in the natural beauty.

Wildlife and Flora

Throughout the hike, you'll be immersed in the rich biodiversity of the Black Forest. Deer and wild boar are common in the area, though they are usually shy and tend to avoid human contact. The forest floor is carpeted with mosses and lichens, and in the spring and summer months, you'll find a variety of wildflowers in bloom.
