This section requires a good head for heights and surefootedness, as you'll navigate metal ladders, cables, and steps embedded into the rock face. The effort is rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Moselle River winding through the valley below.

Moselhoehenweg

The Moselhoehenweg section of the trail offers a more traditional hiking experience, with well-marked paths that meander through lush forests and open meadows. The trail also provides several vantage points where you can pause to take in the sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

Historical Significance

The Moselle Valley is steeped in history, with evidence of Roman settlements dating back over two millennia. As you hike, you'll pass by remnants of ancient Roman roads and structures, offering a glimpse into the area's rich past. The town of Cochem itself is home to the iconic Reichsburg Cochem, a medieval castle perched high above the river, which is worth a visit either before or after your hike.
