The Wyre Forest has a rich history dating back to the medieval period. It was once a royal hunting forest, and remnants of this history can still be seen today. Look out for ancient boundary markers and old coppice woods, which were historically managed for timber and charcoal production.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked, but it’s always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool. I recommend using HiiKER for accurate trail maps and real-time updates. The terrain is varied, with some muddy sections, especially after rain, so sturdy hiking boots are advisable.

Flora and Fauna

The forest is a haven for nature enthusiasts. In spring and summer, the woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells and wild garlic. The diverse habitat supports a range of wildlife, including butterflies like the silver-washed fritillary and mammals such as badgers and bats.

Final Stretch

As you near the end of the loop, the trail gently descends back towards the Wyre Forest Visitor Centre. This final section is a great opportunity to reflect on the natural beauty and historical richness of the area.
