The nearest significant landmark is Rydal Mount, the historic home of poet William Wordsworth, which is a short walk from the trailhead.
The trail begins with a gentle ascent through lush woodland, offering glimpses of Rydal Water through the trees. As you climb, the path becomes steeper, leading you to the open fellside of Loughrigg Fell. The terrain here is a mix of grassy paths and rocky sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
The trail is rich in wildlife, with opportunities to spot red squirrels, deer, and a variety of bird species. The flora is equally diverse, with bluebells carpeting the woodland floor in spring and heather blooming on the fellside in late summer.

The descent from Loughrigg Fell is gradual, taking you through more woodland and eventually back to the shores of Rydal Water. The final stretch of the trail is relatively flat, providing a gentle end to your hike.
