From the carpark turn left (away from the entrance) along Brunel Road. After 100 metres cross the road at the dropped kerb and refuge. Take the tarmac path between houses, that is in front of you as you cross the road. Continue down this path , then fork right just before reaching a road ( Southwater Way). Continue along the pavement , and fork right, going uphill, then take the next left. At the next junction the onward route turns right, but you might like to turn left here, heading to the left of the band stand to the entrance to the Chelsea Gardens. If you have time these gardens are well worth a visit. There is a sensory garden on the right near the entrance. To continue the walk, retrace your steps to the junction. The right turn will now become “carry straight on”. Either way, you are now walking down a tarmac path along the edge of a wood. At the path junction, take the biggest main path which is almost straight on. The path bends left past the ball courts. At the junction of 3 large paths, take the rightmost path with Withy pool on your left. Follow the path as it bends left. You might like to take a diversion through the Covid memorial garden continue past or through the garden until you reach a road (Dark Lane).( There is an interesting information board to the right of the path. .) Turn left along Dark Lane. Continue until you reach a large open space. Turn immediately left, passing the Telford T50 50 Mile Trail information board, and continue with the children’s play area, containing the old Norman chapel on your right. Behind the back of the visitor centre you will come to the entrance of the other sensory garden. In here you will find large wooden musical instruments, the Holocaust Memorial and 2 willow tunnels. Leaving the garden retrace your steps slightly. This time pass the other side of the Norman chapel. Head towards the small lake (NOT Withy Pool) and follow the path along the right-hand edge of the lake. When you reach the corner of the lake, fork right to the memorial to the workers of the Coalbrookdale coalfield. Continue in the same direction walking towards the War Memorial and Veterans Trail. The route turns left just before you reach them , and continues alongside the left-hand side of Southwater Pool, but you might like to divert to look at the memorial. Continue to follow the main path , noting the metal bobbins in the frame on the right. These are for the amusement of all. Continue onwards until Meeting Point house is beyond a grassy area on your right. Turn left towards the car park. Continue straight until the steps up to ASDA, , where you turn left. Cross Southwater Way and turn right. You now retrace your steps to the start, by forking left onto the footpath, following it through the houses, crossing the road and turning left, then following the pavement back to the start.
