#### Mellor Church to Roman Lakes Approximately 1.5 km (0.9 miles) into the hike, you'll come across the Roman Lakes. This area is rich in history, with evidence of Roman settlements. The lakes themselves are serene and offer a great spot for a short break. Keep an eye out for various bird species that frequent the area, including kingfishers and herons.
#### Ascent to Mellor Moor After leaving the Roman Lakes, the trail begins to ascend towards Mellor Moor. This section is about 2 km (1.2 miles) long and gains most of the elevation. The climb can be steep in parts, so take your time and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Peak District.
#### Strines Reservoir At around the 5 km (3.1 miles) mark, you'll reach Strines Reservoir. This is another excellent spot to rest and take in the natural beauty. The reservoir is surrounded by woodlands, and you might spot deer or foxes if you're lucky. The path around the reservoir is well-maintained, making for an easy and enjoyable walk.
