To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transport. If driving, set your GPS to the nearest known address: Hawksmoor Nature Reserve, near Cheadle, Staffordshire. For those using public transport, the closest major town is Cheadle, which is well-connected by bus services. From Cheadle, you can take a local taxi or a short bus ride to the nature reserve.
The trail begins at the Hawksmoor Nature Reserve, a serene area managed by the National Trust. The initial section of the trail is relatively flat, making it an excellent warm-up as you traverse through lush woodlands. Keep an eye out for ancient oak and beech trees, which are home to a variety of bird species, including woodpeckers and nuthatches.
At approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll come across the heart of the Hawksmoor Nature Reserve. This area is known for its rich biodiversity, including rare plants and fungi. The reserve is also a haven for butterflies and dragonflies, especially during the warmer months.

The latter part of the trail takes you through mixed woodlands and open meadows. This section is particularly rich in wildlife. Deer are commonly spotted, and if you're lucky, you might see a fox or badger. The meadows are dotted with wildflowers, attracting bees and other pollinators.
