The initial stretch is relatively flat, allowing for a leisurely pace as one takes in the serene environment.

Historical Landmarks and Natural Beauty

As the trail progresses, it leads to Landacre Bridge, a medieval packhorse bridge that serves as a reminder of the region's historical significance. This charming structure is a perfect spot for a brief rest and some photos.

Continuing on, the path gradually ascends, offering views of the surrounding moorland. Exmoor is known for its diverse wildlife, including the iconic Exmoor ponies, red deer, and various bird species. Keep an eye out for these animals in their natural habitat, but remember to respect their space and observe from a distance.

Ascending to Simonsbath

As you ascend, the landscape opens up to reveal panoramic views of the moors, with the opportunity to witness the vibrant heather in bloom if you're hiking in late summer.

Upon reaching Simonsbath, hikers are greeted by a quaint village that lies at the heart of Exmoor's historical farming community. The village is named after the nearby River Barle and is home to Simonsbath House, a notable building with its own intriguing past.

Navigation and Preparation

To navigate the trail, hikers can use the HiiKER app, which provides detailed maps and trail information to ensure you stay on the right path. It's recommended to download the map for offline use, as mobile signal can be patchy in remote areas.
