This trail is rated as medium difficulty, making it suitable for moderately experienced hikers.

There is ample parking available near the trailhead. For those using public transport, the nearest train station is in Taunton. From Taunton, you can take a bus to Porlock, which is well-connected and offers a scenic route through the Somerset countryside.

As you continue along the trail, you'll enter East Water Valley, a lush area teeming with diverse flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for native wildlife such as red deer, badgers, and a variety of bird species. The valley is particularly beautiful in the spring and summer months when wildflowers are in full bloom.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool. I recommend using HiiKER for accurate trail maps and real-time updates. The path can be muddy and slippery, especially after rain, so sturdy hiking boots are essential. Also, bring plenty of water and some snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail.

Historical Significance

The region around Somerset is steeped in history. The Old Bridge itself is a relic from medieval times, and the surrounding area has been inhabited for centuries. As you hike, you'll be walking through landscapes that have witnessed countless historical events, from ancient settlements to medieval trade routes.
