The trail begins with a gentle ascent, offering panoramic views of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As you start your hike, you'll notice the lush greenery and rolling hills that characterize this region. The initial 2 km (1.2 miles) are relatively easy, allowing you to warm up before the more challenging sections.
Around the 3 km (1.9 miles) mark, you'll encounter the first significant landmark: the ancient hill fort of Caer Caradoc. This site is steeped in history, dating back to the Iron Age. Take a moment to explore the remnants of this fort and imagine the lives of the people who once inhabited it.
Continuing on, the trail ascends more steeply towards Minton Hill. The climb is about 150 meters (492 feet) over the next 2 km (1.2 miles), so be prepared for a bit of a workout. The effort is well worth it, as the summit offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Welsh borders.
As you descend from Minton Hill, keep an eye out for local wildlife. The area is home to a variety of bird species, including red kites and skylarks. The flora is equally diverse, with heather, gorse, and wildflowers adding splashes of color to the landscape.
The trail then leads you towards Round Hill, another highlight of the loop. This section is less steep but still offers some elevation gain, around 100 meters (328 feet) over 1.5 km (0.9 miles). Round Hill provides another excellent vantage point for photography and relaxation.
From Round Hill, the trail gradually descends back towards the starting point. The final 3 km (1.9 miles) are relatively flat, allowing you to cool down and enjoy the serene environment. You'll pass through a mix of open fields and wooded areas, offering a variety of scenery.
