Bagley Wood

Bagley Wood is the first section of the loop. This ancient woodland is known for its dense canopy of oak, ash, and beech trees. As you walk through, you'll notice the forest floor is carpeted with bluebells in the spring, creating a picturesque scene. The woodland is also home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and numerous bird species. Keep an eye out for the occasional red kite soaring above.

Historical Significance

Bagley Wood has a rich history dating back to medieval times. It was once part of the royal hunting grounds and has been managed for timber and coppicing over the centuries. The wood is dotted with old boundary markers and remnants of ancient trackways, offering a glimpse into its storied past.

West Wood

As you transition into West Wood, the landscape changes subtly. This area is slightly more open, with a mix of younger trees and undergrowth. The trail here is a bit narrower and can be muddy after rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended. West Wood is less frequented, providing a more secluded hiking experience.
