To reach the trailhead, you can drive to Burnsall, which is well-connected by road. If you prefer public transport, the nearest train station is Skipton. From Skipton, you can take a local bus to Burnsall, which is about 10 miles (16 km) away. The bus journey offers scenic views of the Yorkshire Dales, setting the tone for your hike.
The trail begins in Burnsall, a village known for its charming stone cottages and historic church, St. Wilfrid's, dating back to the 12th century. As you set off, you'll follow the River Wharfe, a serene waterway that meanders through the lush countryside. The initial stretch is relatively flat, making it a gentle start to your hike.
Approximately 3 km (1.9 miles) into the hike, you'll encounter the iconic Burnsall Bridge, a five-arched stone bridge that offers stunning views of the river.
