The trail begins near the Cod Beck Reservoir, a picturesque spot surrounded by lush greenery. As you start your hike, you'll follow a well-marked path that takes you around the reservoir. This initial section is relatively flat and easy, making it a great warm-up for the more challenging parts ahead.
At approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll find yourself at the edge of Cod Beck Reservoir. The climb is steady but manageable, with the path winding through a mix of woodland and open moorland. As you ascend, you'll be rewarded with increasingly expansive views of the surrounding countryside.

The descent from Beacon Hill is gradual and takes you through more woodland areas. The path is well-trodden and easy to follow, eventually leading you back towards Osmotherley. As you near the village, you'll pass through charming countryside, with stone walls and grazing sheep adding to the idyllic setting.
Throughout the hike, keep an eye out for various species of birds, including skylarks and curlews, especially in the moorland sections. The woodlands are home to a variety of flora, including bluebells in the spring and vibrant autumn foliage later in the year.
