This section of the trail is particularly beautiful in the spring when the bluebells are in bloom. The path here is also well-maintained, and you'll find several benches along the way where you can take a break and enjoy the scenery. The reservoir itself is a great spot for birdwatching, so bring your binoculars if you're a bird enthusiast.

Wanstead Park

The trail then leads you into Wanstead Park, a historic parkland that dates back to the 16th century. The park was once part of the estate of Wanstead House, a grand mansion that was demolished in the early 19th century. Today, the park is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, offering a mix of landscaped gardens, woodlands, and lakes. As you walk through the park, you'll come across the Ornamental Water, a series of interconnected lakes that are home to a variety of waterfowl.

Historical Significance

Wanstead Park has a rich history, having been part of the estate of Sir Josiah Child, a prominent merchant and governor of the East India Company. The park's design was influenced by the formal gardens of the time, and you can still see remnants of this in the layout of the lakes and pathways. The Temple, a small classical building located near the Ornamental Water, is one of the few remaining structures from the original estate and is worth a visit.

Navigation and Safety

The entire loop is well-signposted, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to ensure you stay on track. The trail is mostly flat, with no significant elevation gain, making it suitable for hikers of all fitness levels. If you're lucky, you might even spot a fox or a deer in the more secluded areas of the park.
