The nearest railway station is Hassocks, approximately 3 miles from Ditchling Beacon. From the station, you can catch a local bus or enjoy the walk to the beacon via the well-signposted footpaths through the picturesque village of Keymer.

The Adventure

Standing at 248 metres (814 feet), Ditchling Beacon is the highest point in East Sussex and the third-highest summit on the South Downs. Managed by the National Trust and Sussex Wildlife Trust, it offers some of the most impressive panoramic views in southern England.

Beginning at Ditchling Beacon Car Park, the route follows rolling chalk downland with a series of climbs and descents that provide both a rewarding challenge and spectacular scenery. While none of the ascents are particularly long, there are several steep sections that will certainly get the heart pumping.

Along the way you'll find opportunities to stop at roadside cafés for refreshments or support local farm shops offering fresh produce and homemade treats—perfect for a scenic picnic.

As the walk continues, you'll enjoy impressive views towards Brighton & Hove Albion's American Express Stadium and the University of Sussex, offering an interesting contrast between the peaceful South Downs and the bustling city beyond.
