Trail Overview

The trail begins with a gentle walk along the River Soar, offering picturesque river scenes that are perfect for photography enthusiasts. The path is well-marked and follows the riverbank for the first 2 km (1.2 miles). Keep an eye out for swans, ducks, and other waterfowl that frequent this area. The river is also home to various fish species, making it a popular spot for anglers.

Historical Significance

As you continue along the trail, you'll come across the remnants of the old Quorn Hall, a historic manor house dating back to the 17th century. Although the hall itself is not open to the public, the surrounding grounds are rich in history and offer a glimpse into the region's past. The area was once a hub for fox hunting, and you might notice some old hunting lodges and stables along the way.

Triangle Spinney

Around the 4 km (2.5 miles) mark, you'll enter Triangle Spinney, a small woodland area that provides a refreshing change of scenery. The Spinney is known for its diverse flora, including ancient oak and beech trees. During spring and summer, the forest floor is carpeted with wildflowers, making it a vibrant and colorful section of the hike. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of species that inhabit this woodland, including woodpeckers, robins, and various songbirds.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-maintained and marked, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to ensure you stay on track. The terrain is mostly flat, with well-trodden paths, but can become muddy after rain, so waterproof footwear is recommended. There are no significant elevation changes, making it a relatively easy hike, but the medium difficulty rating comes from the length and some uneven ground in the woodland section.
