Trail Highlights

As you embark on the Padham Walk, you'll quickly find yourself immersed in the serene beauty of the Lancashire countryside. The trail meanders through a mix of open fields and wooded areas, offering a variety of landscapes to enjoy.

Historical Significance

One of the most notable aspects of this trail is its proximity to Gawthorpe Hall, a stunning Elizabethan country house located about 1.5 km (0.93 miles) from the trailhead. Built in the early 17th century, Gawthorpe Hall is a National Trust property and offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's history. If time permits, a detour to visit the hall and its beautiful gardens is highly recommended.

Nature and Wildlife

The trail is rich in natural beauty, with an abundance of flora and fauna. In the spring and summer months, the fields are often dotted with wildflowers, and you may spot various bird species such as robins, blackbirds, and occasionally, kestrels. The wooded sections of the trail are home to squirrels and, if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a deer.

Navigation and Safety

While the trail is well-marked, it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool. HiiKER is an excellent app for this purpose, providing detailed maps and real-time tracking to ensure you stay on course. Given the trail's medium difficulty rating, sturdy walking boots are recommended, especially during wetter months when the path can become slippery.

Points of Interest

• Padiham Memorial Park: Located near the start of the trail, this park is a lovely spot to relax before or after your hike. It features well-maintained gardens, a children's play area, and a small café.
