Ightham Mote

Take a moment to admire its timber-framed architecture and tranquil gardens before continuing on your journey.

Knole Park

Around the halfway mark, approximately 7 km (4.3 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Knole Park. This expansive deer park is home to Knole House, a grand 15th-century estate that once belonged to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The park itself is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its ancient woodlands and diverse wildlife, including a large population of fallow and sika deer. The gentle rolling hills and open spaces provide a perfect spot for a rest or picnic.

Nature and Wildlife

As you traverse the trail, you'll pass through a variety of landscapes, from dense woodlands to open fields. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as foxes, badgers, and a variety of bird species. The trail is particularly beautiful in spring when wildflowers carpet the forest floor, and in autumn when the foliage turns vibrant shades of red and gold.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked, but it's always a good idea to have a reliable navigation tool. HiiKER is an excellent app for this purpose, providing detailed maps and real-time tracking to ensure you stay on course. The terrain is generally moderate, but there are a few steep sections, particularly as you approach Knole Park, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended.
