A rewarding circular walk through the beautiful Goyt Valley, this 10.5-mile (16.9 km) route visits four Ethel summits—Burbage Edge, Shining Tor, Cats Tor and Foxlow Edge—while taking in some of the area’s most fascinating historical landmarks. Beginning at Errwood Reservoir, the route crosses open moorland, follows scenic ridges with far-reaching views, and passes the atmospheric ruins of Errwood Chapel before descending via the remains of Errwood Hall. With 548 metres of ascent, this is a fantastic day hike that combines sweeping Peak District scenery, quiet trails and a glimpse into the rich history of the Goyt Valley.
