Trail Overview

Points of Interest

Tresham Village

At the start, take a moment to explore Tresham. The village has a rich history, with buildings dating back to the 17th century. The local church, St. Kenelm's, is worth a visit for its beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere.

Woodlands and Wildlife

About 1.5 km (0.9 miles) into the hike, you'll enter a dense woodland area. This section is slightly more challenging due to the uneven terrain and slight elevation gain. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species. The woodland is particularly beautiful in the spring when bluebells carpet the forest floor.

Boxwell Court

Approximately 3 km (1.8 miles) from the start, you'll reach Boxwell Court, a historic manor house with origins dating back to the 16th century. While the manor itself is private property and not open to the public, the surrounding grounds offer stunning views and are a great spot for a rest. The area around Boxwell Court is also known for its ancient yew trees, some of which are believed to be over 1,000 years old.

Navigation and Safety

Given the trail's moderate difficulty, it's advisable to use a reliable navigation tool like HiiKER to stay on track. The trail is well-marked, but having a digital map can be helpful, especially in the woodland sections where paths can be less distinct.

Final Stretch

The return journey follows the same path back to Tresham. The descent is generally easier, allowing you to enjoy the scenic views without too much effort. As you make your way back, take the opportunity to appreciate the changing perspectives and perhaps spot any wildlife you may have missed earlier.

Practical Tips

• Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots are recommended due to the uneven terrain in the woodland areas.
• Weather: Check the weather forecast before you go. The trail can become muddy and slippery after rain.
• Supplies: Bring enough water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail.
• Respect Nature: Stick to the marked paths and take any litter home with you to preserve the natural beauty of the area.
