Historical Significance

As you hike, you'll notice remnants of the railway, including old station platforms and bridges, which add a historical dimension to your walk. The name "Flitch" comes from the ancient Flitch of Bacon custom, a local tradition dating back to the 12th century, where married couples could win a flitch (side) of bacon if they could prove they had not argued for a year and a day.

The trail meanders through a variety of landscapes, including woodlands, meadows, and wetlands. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species.
