The trail begins near Isfield Country Park, a serene area known for its lush greenery and tranquil atmosphere. As you start your hike, you'll be greeted by the gentle sounds of the River Ouse, which runs parallel to the initial section of the trail. The first 2 km (1.2 miles) are relatively flat, making for an easy warm-up.
Around the 3 km (1.9 miles) mark, you'll enter Downlands Wood. This section is a bit more challenging due to the slight elevation gain, but the effort is well worth it. The wood is home to a variety of native trees, including oak, ash, and beech. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species. The dense canopy provides ample shade, making it a pleasant walk even on warmer days.
As you continue, you'll come across remnants of historical significance. The area around Isfield has a rich history dating back to the medieval period. As you approach the end, you'll pass through some open fields, offering one last chance to soak in the natural beauty of East Sussex.
