This point-to-point trail is considered to have a medium difficulty rating and offers a blend of historical intrigue and natural beauty.
Getting to the Trailhead
The trailhead is located near the village of Corfe Castle in Dorset, England. For those arriving by car, parking is available in the village, which is a short walk from the castle itself. Public transport users can take advantage of local bus services that stop in Corfe Castle, or the Swanage Railway, which offers a more scenic approach to the starting point.
Historical Significance
The journey begins near the iconic ruins of Corfe Castle, a fortification steeped in over a thousand years of history. Once a royal palace and fortress, the castle played a pivotal role during the English Civil War and its dramatic silhouette against the skyline is a reminder of the area's rich past.
Trail Experience
As hikers leave the shadow of Corfe Castle, the trail meanders through rolling hills and open fields, offering stunning views of the Purbeck landscape. The path is well-defined and marked, but having the HiiKER app can be helpful for navigation and to learn more about the trail as you progress.
Natural Highlights
The route takes you through a variety of habitats, from grassy knolls to dense thickets, which are home to an array of wildlife. Birdwatchers may spot species such as skylarks and buzzards, while the spring and summer months bring a colorful display of wildflowers.
Coastal Vistas

Kimmeridge Bay
As the trail approaches its end at Kimmeridge Bay, hikers are treated to the sight of the bay's clear waters and rocky ledges. The bay is a marine reserve and is known for its rich marine life, including the occasional dolphin sighting.
Conclusion
Upon reaching Kimmeridge Bay, hikers can explore the rock pools, visit the Clavell Tower, or simply relax and enjoy the coastal scenery before arranging their return journey.
