Trail Highlights

Bindon Hill and Rings Hill

As you set off, the trail initially takes you up Bindon Hill, offering panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ascent is gradual, with an elevation gain that rewards you with sweeping vistas of the English Channel. Continuing to Rings Hill, you'll traverse open grasslands that are home to a variety of wildflowers and butterflies, especially in the spring and summer months.

Worbarrow Bay

Descending towards Worbarrow Bay, the trail meanders through the serene Tyneham Valley. This area is steeped in history, with the abandoned village of Tyneham nearby, evacuated during World War II and now a poignant reminder of the past. The bay itself is a stunning crescent of shingle beach, perfect for a rest stop and a chance to soak in the coastal scenery.

Lulworth Cove

The final leg of the loop brings you to the iconic Lulworth Cove, renowned for its unique geological formations and crystal-clear waters. The cove is a natural wonder, formed by the erosive power of the sea over millennia. Here, you can explore the fascinating rock strata and perhaps even spot some marine life in the shallows.

Navigation and Safety

The trail is well-marked, but it's advisable to use the HiiKER app for detailed navigation and to ensure you stay on track. Weather conditions can change rapidly along the coast, so be prepared with appropriate clothing and gear. The terrain can be uneven and steep in places, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended.

Flora and Fauna

Throughout the hike, keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that inhabits this region. The chalk downlands support a variety of bird species, including skylarks and kestrels. In the hedgerows and meadows, you might encounter rabbits and, if you're lucky, a glimpse of a deer.

This trail offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and moderate challenge, making it a must-visit for hikers exploring the Dorset coast.
