oday I ticked off the section between Welcome Mouth and Spekes Mill Mouth, a 9 mile circular and a good one to get in just before the conditions change here overnight. I started this route from the NT Car Park at Welcome Mouth which is free but has a donations box (for non members) which hopefully the monies would go to improving the approach road that is currently shocking! From here you cross the stepping stones (which were washed out on my last visit) and climb steeply up to the top of The Hermitage. It then levels out and is simply "Undulating" until you hit the drop from Longpeak down towards Spekes Mill and its Waterfall (which i skipped today as I had been there on the section down from Hartland Quay. At Longpeak there are two options for the SWCP, i decided to drop down and do the valley section which was a little more sheltered today. The return leg offers a figure of 8 loop taking in Higher Milford & South Hole (follow your nose and use some Cog Nav techniques here to cut the corner and avoid the longer road section).
