This loop trail is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the serene English countryside while enjoying a mix of natural beauty and historical landmarks.

The trail begins near Tissington Hall, a stunning Jacobean mansion that dates back to the early 17th century. As you set off, you'll be greeted by the charming stone cottages and well-tended gardens of Tissington village. The trail quickly leads you into the rolling hills and lush meadows that characterize the Derbyshire Dales.
As you traverse the trail, you'll pass through a variety of landscapes, including open fields, woodlands, and limestone dales. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as rabbits, foxes, and a variety of bird species. In the spring and summer months, the meadows are often ablaze with wildflowers, adding a splash of color to your hike.

The trail features a mix of gentle inclines and steeper sections, with the most significant elevation gain occurring in the first half of the loop. The highest point of the trail offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, making the climb well worth the effort. The terrain is varied, ranging from well-trodden paths to more rugged sections, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended.
The region around Tissington is steeped in history. The village itself is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and many of its buildings date back several centuries. The Tissington Trail follows the route of the former Ashbourne to Buxton railway line, which was closed in the 1960s and later repurposed as a recreational path.
This trail offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical interest, and moderate physical challenge, making it an ideal choice for a day hike in the Derbyshire Dales.
