If driving, head towards Makenery, which is easily accessible from the A38. There is limited parking available near the village, so arriving early is advisable. For those using public transport, the nearest train station is Duffield, which is well-connected to Derby. The village itself is steeped in history, with several buildings dating back to the 17th century. As you leave the village, you'll begin a gentle ascent through lush green fields.#### Woodland Paths Around the 2 km (1.2 miles) mark, you'll enter a dense woodland area. This section of the trail is particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn, with vibrant foliage and a variety of bird species. Keep an eye out for native wildlife such as deer and foxes, which are often spotted in this area.#### Duffield Castle Ruins At approximately 5 km (3.1 miles), you'll reach the historical highlight of the trail: the ruins of Duffield Castle.
