Higher Shelf Stones

Starting from the Snake Pass Inn, the trail initially takes you through a mix of moorland and rocky terrain. After about 2 km (1.2 miles), you'll reach Higher Shelf Stones, a prominent feature offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This area is also home to the wreckage of a B-29 Superfortress, known as "Over Exposed," which crashed here in 1948. The site serves as a poignant memorial and is a significant historical landmark.

Bleaklow Head

Continuing from Higher Shelf Stones, the trail leads you towards Bleaklow Head, approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) into the hike. This is one of the highest points in the Peak District, standing at 633 meters (2,077 feet) above sea level.
