This circular walk begins in the picturesque village of Tideswell, known as the “Cathedral of the Peak” thanks to its impressive 14th-century church. Leaving the village behind, the route climbs onto the open limestone uplands of Wardlow Hay Cop, one of the Peak District’s Ethel summits, where wide-ranging views stretch across the White Peak.
From there, the route continues to Monsal Head, arguably one of the most famous viewpoints in the National Park, overlooking the spectacular Monsal Dale and the former Midland Railway viaduct. The walk then follows the ridge to Fin Cop, an Iron Age hillfort perched dramatically above the River Wye, offering some of the finest views in the area.
The return journey descends into the beautiful limestone valley of Millers Dale, where towering cliffs, wildflowers and the Monsal Trail provide a striking contrast to the open hilltops. Following quiet paths and old railway routes, the walk eventually returns to Tideswell, completing a varied circuit packed with history, scenery and one of the Peak District’s accessible Ethel summits.
