Getting There

To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transport. If driving, head towards Seathwaite, a small hamlet in the Borrowdale valley, which is the nearest significant landmark. There is limited parking available, so arriving early is advisable. For those using public transport, take a bus to Keswick and then a connecting bus to Seatoller, which is a short walk from Seathwaite.

Trail Overview

The trail begins with a steady ascent from Seathwaite, leading you through lush green pastures and alongside the picturesque Sour Milk Gill waterfall. This initial section is a great warm-up, with the sound of cascading water accompanying your steps.

Grey Knotts and Brandeth

After approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) and an elevation gain of 300 meters (984 feet), you will reach Grey Knotts. The terrain here is rocky, so sturdy footwear is essential. Grey Knotts offers panoramic views of the surrounding fells and valleys, a perfect spot for a brief rest and some photography.

Continuing along the ridge for another 1.5 km (0.9 miles), you will arrive at Brandeth. The path between Grey Knotts and Brandeth is relatively flat, allowing you to catch your breath and enjoy the expansive views. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including red deer and various bird species.

Green Gable

The next segment involves a steeper climb of about 1 km (0.6 miles) with an elevation gain of 200 meters (656 feet) to reach Green Gable.
