To reach the trailhead, you can drive or use public transport. If driving, head towards Loweswater village, where you can find parking near the Kirkstile Inn, a well-known local landmark. For those using public transport, the nearest major town is Cockermouth, from where you can catch a bus to Loweswater. The bus stop is conveniently located near the Kirkstile Inn, making it an ideal starting point.
The Corpse Road Walk follows an ancient route historically used to transport the dead from the remote village of Loweswater to the consecrated ground at St. Bees Priory. This path is rich in folklore and local legends, adding a layer of intrigue to your hike. As you walk, imagine the solemn processions that once took place along this route, a poignant reminder of the area's history.
The trail begins near the Kirkstile Inn, where you can take a moment to appreciate the traditional architecture and perhaps grab a quick refreshment.
