After approximately 1 km (0.6 miles), the trail begins to ascend towards Buttermere Moss. This section is moderately steep, with an elevation gain of around 200 meters (656 feet) over the next 1.5 km (0.9 miles). The path can be rocky and uneven, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. As you climb, take a moment to look back and admire the expanding views of Buttermere Lake and the surrounding fells.
Continuing on, you'll reach the highest point of the trail at Robinson, standing at an elevation of 737 meters (2,418 feet). The ascent to Robinson adds another 200 meters (656 feet) of elevation gain over the next 1.5 km (0.9 miles). From the summit, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Lake District, including the peaks of Grasmoor, Fleetwith Pike, and Haystacks. This is a perfect spot for a rest and some photography.
The descent from Robinson is gradual and takes you through a mix of grassy slopes and rocky paths. Over the next 1.5 km (0.9 miles), you'll lose around 400 meters (1,312 feet) in elevation as you make your way back towards Buttermere. The trail loops back to the village, passing through beautiful meadows and offering occasional glimpses of local wildlife, such as red squirrels and various bird species.
