The first section of the trail takes you along the South West Coast Path, where you'll experience some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Cornwall.

Coastal Path and Elevation Gain

The initial ascent is quite steep, gaining about 100 meters (328 feet) in the first 1.5 km (0.9 miles). This section can be challenging, but the panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the sea are well worth the effort. Keep an eye out for seabirds such as gulls and cormorants, which are commonly seen along this stretch.

Inland Loop and Historical Significance

After the coastal section, the trail veers inland, taking you through lush meadows and ancient woodlands. This part of the hike is more sheltered and offers a different kind of beauty. The area is rich in history, with remnants of old farmsteads and stone walls that date back to medieval times. At around the 3 km (1.9 miles) mark, you'll come across the ruins of an old mill, a testament to the region's agricultural past.

Flora and Fauna

As you continue, you'll notice a variety of plant life, including wildflowers such as bluebells and foxgloves in the spring and summer months. The woodlands are home to various species of birds, including woodpeckers and owls, so keep your ears open for their calls.

Final Stretch

The last part of the loop brings you back towards the coast, descending gradually over the final 1.5 km (0.9 miles). This section offers more gentle terrain, making for a pleasant end to your hike.
