Points of Interest

As you embark on the loop, you'll first encounter a serene pond approximately 0.5 km (0.31 miles) into the hike. This spot is perfect for a brief rest and offers opportunities for birdwatching. Ducks, geese, and occasionally herons can be seen here, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

Continuing along the trail, you'll pass through a series of meadows filled with wildflowers during the spring and summer months. These meadows are home to various species of butterflies and bees, making it a vibrant and colorful section of the hike.

Historical Significance

The area around Exposition Park has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Originally part of a larger ranching community, the land was gradually developed into public spaces as the nearby city of Centennial expanded. Historical markers along the trail provide insights into the region's past, including information about the early settlers and the transformation of the landscape over the decades.

Wildlife and Flora

The loop is a haven for local wildlife. In addition to the birds around the pond, you might spot rabbits, squirrels, and occasionally deer in the more wooded sections. The flora is equally diverse, with cottonwood trees providing shade and various grasses and shrubs lining the path.

Practical Tips

Given the trail's moderate difficulty rating, it's suitable for families and casual hikers. However, it's always wise to bring water, especially during the warmer months. The trail can get muddy after rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended. There are several benches along the route, offering spots to rest and take in the scenery.

Final Stretch

As you near the end of the loop, the trail brings you back towards the starting point near the parking area. This final section is relatively flat and open, providing a gentle conclusion to your hike. The entire loop can be comfortably completed in about an hour, making it an ideal choice for a quick outdoor escape.

Whether you're a local resident or visiting the area, the Exo Park Loop offers a refreshing and scenic hike with plenty of natural beauty and historical context to enjoy.
