If driving, head towards the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery, located along California Highway 1, about 7 miles north of San Simeon. For those using public transport, you can take a bus to San Simeon and then a short taxi ride to the trailhead.

Approximately 0.5 kilometers (0.31 miles) into the hike, you’ll reach the first viewing platform, which offers panoramic views of the coastline and the elephant seal colony below. This is a great spot for photography and wildlife observation. Continue along the trail for another 0.5 kilometers (0.31 miles) to reach the second viewing platform, which provides an even closer look at the seals.
The area around San Simeon has a rich history, with the nearby Hearst Castle being a notable landmark. Built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst in the early 20th century, the castle is a testament to the opulence of the era and offers guided tours for those interested in exploring further.
