Hymany Way, which is also a section of the Beara Breifne way, crosses a stunning but quiet area of forest paths, bogs and watercourse. It follows the Shannon River for a part, with its differing types of species rich habitats along its banks, including the Shannon Callows. This is an internationally important area of wetland with conservation status, important for many species of birds, such as Skylark, Meadow Pipit and Sedge Warblers. The globally endangered Corncrake is also found here. As well as being an ornithologists’ delight, there are also ruins and sites of importance along the 90km trail such as the site of the Battle of Aughrim.
