The trail begins with a gentle ascent through lush, green countryside, typical of the Ballyhoura region. As you start, you'll be greeted by rolling hills and expansive meadows. The initial 1 km (0.6 miles) is relatively easy, allowing you to warm up and take in the serene landscape.
One of the highlights of this trail is the Moor Abbey, a significant historical landmark. Founded in the 13th century, this Franciscan friary offers a glimpse into Ireland's medieval past. The ruins are well-preserved, and you can explore the cloisters and remnants of the church. The abbey is located approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, making it a perfect spot for a short break and some exploration.
