A rugged and challenging hike, the Mount Errigal route is a 3 mile out-and-back that starts and ends in Dunlewy ED, Ireland. An extra difficult hike, it has a total elevation gain of 1642 ft as it climbs to the craggy summit of Errigal at 2463 ft, the tallest of Donegal’s Seven Sisters. With far-reaching views of the Derryveagh Mountains, and on clear days, to the coast, it is a popular trail that shouldn’t be underestimated. Exposed, unmarked and steep with a variety of terrain, from marshy bogland to rugged rock, it is a tough but rewarding climb that experiences inclement weather, so it’s advised to take layers, provisions and have some navigational skills.
Dogs are allowed on the trail but it is not recommended due to challenging terrain.
Amenities and cafes can be found in the nearby town of Middletown, whilst the Dunlewey Centre can be found at the foot of Mount Errigal and has a restaurant and tea rooms, however, seasonal opening days and times should be confirmed before visiting.
