The Rerrin loop is the easier of the two looped trails on Bere Island. However, the scenery is just as amazing. Staring in the small village of Rerrin on the east of the island, the 6km loop will bring you through some historical sites, including two of the Martello towers - built in the 18th century to protect the land against Napoleon's forces. There are also some ancient sites along the route, including some that date back as far as the bronze age.
The trail is well marked and is suitable for hikers of all abilities. Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be kept on a leash. It is recommended to park in Castletownbere and take a ferry over to the island.
