Pyramid Peak Trail is a challenging hike that leads to the summit of Pyramid Peak, located in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. The trail starts at the Maroon Lake Trailhead and follows a steep and rocky path through the forest and over talus fields for about 7.5 miles round trip and elevation gain is approx. 4,500 feet. The trail is not well marked and can be difficult to follow in some sections, so a map and compass or GPS device is recommended.As the trail gains elevation, hikers will be treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The final push to the summit is steep and requires some scrambling, but the views from the top are well worth the effort. From the summit, hikers can see the Maroon Bells, Snowmass Mountain, and other peaks in the Elk Mountains. The trail is considered one of the most difficult and dangerous hikes in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, so hikers should be experienced and well-prepared for a challenging climb.Hikers should be in good physical shape, have the proper equipment, such as sturdy hiking boots, plenty of water, snacks, and suitable clothing. Additionally, hikers should be aware of the changing weather conditions and be prepared for potential thunderstorms, especially in the summer months. This is a full day hike and it's important to be aware of the altitude, start early and be aware of the time to return before dark.
