Ep.16 - Bewl Water Loop

Getting There

The easiest way to get to Bewl Water is by car, as there is no direct public transport to the park.The main entrance is located on the Kent and East Sussex border:Bewlbridge Lane, Lamberhurst, Kent, TN3 8JH

Parking is available for a fee via the RingGo app, although there's a word of caution: mobile internet coverage can be unreliable in this area. You may need to connect to the local free Wi-Fi to complete your payment. There are also several alternative free parking locations, marked on the map, which can be used as alternative starting points.

The Adventure

Starting from the visitor centre, this is an easy and enjoyable walk that's popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

The route follows a variety of surfaces, including bridleways, quiet country lanes and peaceful woodland paths. Depending on the season and recent weather, some of the woodland sections can become rather muddy, so suitable footwear is recommended.

There's plenty to see and do around the lake, with boating, canoeing, paddleboarding and an aqua-park course providing plenty of activity along the route. It gives the walk a lively atmosphere, particularly during the warmer months.

I've also given this route another name: the Blackberry Loop. When the blackberries are in season, they're absolutely everywhere, with bushes lining much of the route. If you happen to be walking at the right time of year, fill your boots!

The walk itself has very little elevation, making it a relatively easy outing. The only notable climb comes if you take the short spur towards the delightful Bull Inn, which makes an excellent excuse to pause for some great food and refreshments before continuing your adventure.

Overall, an easy and varied walk with woodland, countryside and lakeside scenery, plenty of activities to watch along the way, and the added bonus of a good pub stop. Perfect for a relaxed day out rather than a serious hike.
