On this hike I stopped short of Mt Aix and explored down trail 981 to Lookout Creek (which is fairly hard, but not impossible, to follow). The trail is cleared (albeit poorly at times) to Dog Creek about 3 miles from the trailhead. After that you appreciate the clearing that took place before because the Schneider Springs Fire has left a lot of trees in the trail which makes it very difficult to pass through, so expect slow progress and working to re-find the trail frequently. There are some beautiful areas to see and it is a neat way to get to Mt. Aix, which I have done previously, but a tough day hike.
